On 17th June, 2023 a delegation of community leaders from Naturena joined the Soweto Drug Addiction Rally at Ipeleng Centre of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Jabavu, White City. Invited by Rev George Tladi and Chairperson Christian, the purpose of this gathering was to explore the theme “Addiction STIGMA MUST END” Facilitation was provided by staff from the Social Development Department and a committed community group, “Men in Prayer.” The framework for the training session was faith-based with approaching the disease of drugs and substance abuse as spiritual warfare.

“Men in Prayer,” with its vision as “Restoring Men,” came to share their tried and tested Programme actively running in Pimville, Zola, Orange Farm, Lawley and Meadowlands, where recovering addicts come to openly and honestly talk about issues related to:
-Ego of addiction
-Low self esteem
-Living free from addiction -Addiction as spiritual discovery
-Rejection by families
-Loss of moral values to
-Pathways to Hope and Healing.

The evidence-based “Men in Prayer” Programme is a collaboration with DSD with a bigger vision for duplication in other communities. “Men in Prayer” is unapologetic about their commitment to serve HUMANITY and assist and accompany people in finding their path/ “voetpaaitjie” towards breaking the curse of people infected with, and affected by the disease of drug addiction.

The Naturena Team look forward to learning from and collaborating with the activists in Eldorado Park on organising prevention, intervention and restoration strategies towards these communities becoming drug-free zones!! COMPASSION can overcome stigma!!
