In a world enveloped in conditions of crucifixion, Holy Week is not just examining the state of your personal spirituality. It’s an invitation to examine our political and societal reality – genocide and gender based violence, inequity and poverty, marginalization and corruption, world disorder to solidify western neo-imperialism!
Jesus didn’t just merely die for your “sins.” He was executed by a violent and oppressive empirical system that was threatened by his subversive, transformative and liberative power! Holy Week is a call to courageously connect personal and social holiness to advance societal wholeness!
The urgency of NOW, is not to use your faith in, and followship of Jesus as a form of escapism. Instead, unleash your faith in companionship with Jesus as followship through activism!! This is the power that propels us beyond crucifixion into resurrection revolution!!
In a world entrapped in conditions of crucifixion, how can we boldly bridge one of the last sayings of Jesus, “It is Finished,” with one of his first sayings after resurrection, “Peace be unto you?” Resurrection revolution is not about a false peace perpetrated by empires, settlers, colonizers and their allies.
Amid these tumultuous and dangerous times, let us take to heart these words from Jesus, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14: 27). Resurrection conquers crucifixion when we audaciously wage authentic peace that’s not just about the absence of conflict, but the active pursuit of racial justice!
